We install LiftMaster and Chamberlain residential openers. These are the brands we recommend because the parts are available, the tech support is real, and they hold up in the Lower Mainland climate — including the cold wet winters that kill cheaper units.
Which Opener Is Right for Your Door
This depends on the door type, how the garage is used, and what you want from a smart home standpoint.
- Belt drive: quieter than chain, good choice for attached garages near living areas or bedrooms. LiftMaster 87504-267 is our most-installed residential unit.
- Chain drive: louder but more durable under heavy use. Better choice for detached garages.
- Jackshaft (wall-mount): mounts beside the door instead of the ceiling. Required for high-lift, low-clearance, or cathedral-ceiling garages where a trolley opener will not fit. Also frees up ceiling space.
Battery Backup
We strongly recommend openers with battery backup for Metro Vancouver homes. BC Hydro outages happen — having your door stuck closed during a winter storm or an evacuation is avoidable. Most current LiftMaster units include backup as standard.
Smart Home Integration
LiftMaster myQ connects to your home WiFi and lets you monitor and control the door from your phone, get open/close alerts, and integrate with Google Home, Amazon Alexa, and Apple HomeKit. We set this up as part of the install.
