Broken torsion springThat bang was a spring letting go.
- Likely cause
- A torsion spring has snapped — you can often see a gap in the coil above the door. The opener is now trying to lift the door’s full weight.
- Do this now
- Keep the door closed and unplug the opener. Don’t force it up by hand or keep pressing the remote.
- What we do
- We replace the spring (usually both, so they wear evenly), re-balance the door and check cables, drums and bushings in the same visit.
