The MGT uses a worm-gear reduction head rather than a V-belt and chain, paired with an electrically activated drum-band solenoid brake. It mounts on a ceiling trolley track, making it the choice when a jackshaft operator cannot be used because there is no drive shaft available. The control board is the BOARD 070 platform with monitored entrapment protection meeting ANSI/CAN/UL 325.

Specification Detail
Motor Heavy-duty worm gear industrial, continuous-duty
Reduction Worm gear reducer
Brake Electrically activated drum-band solenoid brake
Manual Operation Manual chain hoist / disconnect per configuration
Control Board BOARD 070, monitored entrapment protection, ANSI/CAN/UL 325 compliant
Duty Rating Heavy-duty industrial trolley

Typical Applications

This operator suits standard-lift industrial sectional doors that are too heavy or see too many cycles for the OTBH belt-drive class. The worm gear delivers consistent torque under sustained load and eliminates the belt-tension maintenance that V-belt drives require. On a trolley mount, it fits big industrial sectionals where a jackshaft (MGH) is not an option.

What Fails and How We Repair It

The two main maintenance points on the MGT are the gear reducer oil and the solenoid brake. Because it rides on a ceiling trolley track, track alignment becomes a third failure mode. A long track that has sagged or shifted binds the carriage; with the MGT’s high torque, the operator will keep pulling against that bind until something breaks rather than stalling out. We address this by realigning or reinforcing the track, servicing the brake solenoid and drum band, and changing the reducer oil on schedule.

Choosing Between MGT, OTBH, and MGH

  • OTBH — Belt-and-chain trolley for lighter industrial doors.
  • MGT — Worm-gear trolley for heavy, high-cycle doors where no shaft exists.
  • MGH — Jackshaft equivalent when a drive shaft is available.

If you are unsure which unit you have, check the data plate on the operator housing for the model code. Note the voltage, phase, and approximate daily cycle count — those three details determine what we bring to a service call.

Parts and Accessories

Manaras offers a full accessory range for the MGT: monitored and non-monitored photoelectric cells, light curtains, electric and pneumatic sensing edges, interface modules, push-button and key-switch stations, pull switches, keypads, card readers, radio receivers and transmitters, and traffic-light kits. A common point of confusion: on a UL 325 monitored circuit, a failed safety device causes the operator to refuse to close. That is correct behaviour, not a malfunction. A door that suddenly will not close with no other symptom is often a photo eye or sensing edge that has failed or drifted out of alignment.

We stock common wear items for the Opera and MEGA series — control boards, clutches, solenoid coils, limit switch assemblies, and safety edges. Anything not on our shelves we source through our distributor, and you will hear about lead times before we attend.

Getting Service in Metro Vancouver

We cover Richmond, Vancouver, Burnaby, Surrey, and the surrounding Lower Mainland. If you need a new MGT installed, a solenoid brake serviced, a track realigned, or a safety circuit diagnosed, our technicians arrive with the right parts and the model-specific knowledge to fix it.

Call 778-873-7282 to schedule service or request a quote. Pricing is quoted per project based on door specs, voltage, and site conditions.

Manufacturer Documentation

Original Manaras-Opera documents are available if the paperwork for your existing unit is missing: specification sheet, sell sheet, dimension drawing (MGT/MGSL), and mechanical drawing.
