Duty rating Heavy duty, continuous‑duty motor

The OPJ shares the same continuous‑duty motor and #50 chain drive as the OPH but omits the Hoist‑a‑matic chain hoist. Standard builds suit properly balanced rolling steel doors with under 80 lb of imbalance; heavier rolling doors require the drum‑band solenoid brake modification.

Where the OPJ Fits

This operator handles heavy‑duty standard lift, high lift and vertical lift sectional doors, plus rolling doors and grilles. Choose the OPJ over the OPH when the door is heavy enough to need the heavy‑duty platform but no one needs to hand‑operate it during a power outage — common in buildings with multiple bays or alternate entries. The cost saving over an OPH is real, and there is no operational downside if the hoist would never be used.

Common Failures & How We Repair Them

  • Reversing clutch wear — typical across the heavy‑duty series; we replace the clutch assembly and re‑calibrate limits.
  • Floor level disconnect left disengaged — the operator runs but the door does not move. This is the top avoidable service call. We verify engagement first, then inspect the mechanism for wear or damage.

We carry control boards, clutches, solenoid coils, limit switch assemblies and safety edges for the Opera and MEGA series. Anything not on our shelf is sourced through our distributor, and you will know the lead time before we schedule the visit.

Choosing Between Models

  • OPH — adds the Hoist‑a‑matic chain hoist for manual operation during outages.
  • OHJ — adds both hoist and disconnect.

If you are unsure which unit you have, check the data plate on the operator housing for the model code. Note the voltage, phase and approximate daily cycles — those three facts decide most of what we bring to a service call. For the full range, see the Manaras commercial operator reference or our operator repair overview.

Parts & Accessories

Manaras publishes a full accessory range that pairs with the OPJ: monitored and non‑monitored photoelectric cells, light curtains, electric and pneumatic sensing edges, interface modules, push‑button and key‑switch control stations, pull switches, keypads and card readers, radio receivers and transmitters, and traffic light kits.

Key point: on a UL 325 monitored circuit, a failed safety device makes the operator refuse to close. That is correct behaviour, not a malfunction. A door that suddenly will not close, with no other symptom, is very often a photo eye or sensing edge that has failed or drifted out of alignment.
