What These Operators Are Used For

Both units handle single and bi-parting sliding doors in industrial and commercial buildings. The OSL covers standard heavy-duty openings up to roughly 12 ft wide with the supplied dual 12-gauge galvanized tracks; additional track lengths extend that range. When the door weight, width, or cycle count exceeds the OSL’s capacity, the MGSL worm-gear unit is the step up. The solenoid brake is standard on both because a sliding door carries its load horizontally — without a positive brake, the door coasts when the motor stops, making positional control unreliable.

What Fails & How We Repair It

Most sliding-door calls trace back to the track and rollers, not the operator. Debris in the floor track, a bent guide, or a flat-spotted roller binds the door and overloads the motor. We always inspect the track first. On the operator itself, the two common wear items are the drum-band brake and the #41 chain/sprocket set. The OSL’s 120 rpm output shaft runs faster than overhead-door operators, so chain and sprocket wear accumulates quicker than owners expect. We replace brake bands, adjust or swap solenoids, and refresh chain and sprockets with genuine Manaras parts. If the V-belt or input bearings are worn, we address those during the same visit.

Choosing Between OSL & MGSL

If you are replacing an existing unit, locate the data plate on the operator housing — it lists the model code, voltage, and phase. Note the approximate daily cycle count. Those three facts determine which unit and what parts we bring to the job. For overhead sectional doors, the Manaras range includes OTH/OTBH trolley operators and jackshaft models; we can quote those separately.

Parts & Accessories

Manaras publishes a full accessory line that pairs with the OSL and MGSL: monitored and non-monitored photoelectric cells, light curtains, electric and pneumatic sensing edges, interface modules, push-button and key-switch stations, pull switches, keypads, card readers, radio receivers and transmitters, and traffic-light kits. A frequent source of confusion: on a UL 325 monitored circuit, a failed safety device causes the operator to refuse to close. That is correct, safety-compliant behaviour — not a fault in the operator.
