Both models share the same core specifications. The OHJ exists specifically for security grilles over retail frontages or parkades where building code requires a manual egress route — the floor-level disconnect lets someone operate the grille from the ground without a ladder.

Important manufacturer note: The standard configuration is intended for properly balanced rolling steel doors with less than 80 lb of imbalance. For larger or heavier rolling doors, Manaras recommends an electrically activated drum-band solenoid brake as a mechanical modification. Fitting an OPH/OHJ to a heavier rolling door without that brake is a specification error we encounter in the field.
What Fails & How We Repair It
Reversing clutch
The reversing clutch is a consumable on this series. In a warehouse seeing 30–50 cycles a day it typically lasts three to five years; on a loading dock running 100+ cycles daily, two to three years. When it slips, the motor runs but the door doesn’t follow properly. It’s field-replaceable and we keep it in stock.
Hoist system wear
The manufacturer states the hoist is designed for light, limited use during troubleshooting only — not as a substitute for a working operator. Buildings that operate the hoist daily because “the door has been playing up” wear it out quickly. We replace worn hoist components and, more importantly, fix the underlying operator issue so the hoist returns to its intended emergency-only role.
Brake & solenoid issues
On heavier rolling doors without the recommended solenoid brake, we see premature brake wear and control problems. The fix is retrofitting the manufacturer-specified drum-band solenoid brake and rebalancing the door.
Choosing Between Models
The OPJ is the same heavy-duty platform with only a floor-level disconnect (no Hoist-a-matic). If you’re unsure which unit is on your door, check the data plate on the operator housing — note the model code, voltage, phase, and roughly how many cycles a day the door runs. Those three facts decide most of what we’d bring to the service call.
