The groove pitch is wider to prevent cable-to-cable contact when the wraps stack vertically.

How do I know if I have high-lift or vertical-lift track?

Measure from the top of the door opening to where the horizontal track begins. Standard lift: 12–18 in. High-lift: 24–48 in. Vertical-lift: no horizontal track — the door stacks vertically against the wall.

What happens if I install a standard drum on a high-lift door?

The cable will run out of groove before the door reaches the horizontal track. The cable then rubs the drum flange or shaft, fraying within weeks. The door may also bind at the radius transition.

Are there universal drums that fit all lift types?

No. Groove pitch is physically cut for a specific lift geometry. Some aftermarket “adjustable” drums exist but are not DASMA-recognized and we do not install them.
