Where Each Unit Belongs
Standard three-button stations (STATION020) belong on interior walls in dry, conditioned spaces. Any exterior wall, washdown room or loading dock exposed to hosedown requires the sealed polycarbonate STATION078 — a NEMA 1 steel box will rust and compromise the room’s rating. The mushroom-head STATION088 suits gate posts and drive lanes where a gloved hand needs one large momentary button. Traffic lights (TRAFFIC036/037 or 046/047) mount at driver eye level on loading docks, parkade entries, car washes and drive-through lanes to give a clear go/no-go signal before a vehicle commits to the opening.
Wiring Modes & Safety Interaction
Stations wire in B2 or C2 mode: momentary contact to open/close, or momentary to open/stop with constant pressure to close. The chosen mode interacts directly with the door’s entrapment protection, so swapping a station is not always the five-minute job it appears to be. On UL 325 monitored circuits, a failed safety device (photo eye, sensing edge) causes the operator to refuse to close — this is correct behaviour, not a malfunction. A door that suddenly won’t close with no other symptom often points to a failed or misaligned safety device.
What Fails & How We Repair It
- Corroded NEMA 1 stations on exterior walls: We replace with STATION078 and reseal the mounting surface.
- Cracked or UV-damaged polycarbonate enclosures: Swap the station body; reuse existing wiring where possible.
Clean or replace the STATION088 actuator. - Traffic light LED modules dimmed by sun exposure or moisture ingress: Replace the module or upgrade to TRAFFIC046/047 with sun visors.
- Wiring mode mismatches after a station swap: We re-commission the station to match the operator’s B2/C2 setting and verify safety-device monitoring.
Choosing Between Models
Environment dictates the station: dry interior → STATION020; washdown, exterior or corrosive → STATION078; single-button impulse → STATION088. For traffic lights, standard visibility needs are met by TRAFFIC036/037; direct-sunlight approaches call for TRAFFIC046/047 with visors and ultra-bright LEDs. We confirm supply voltage (120 VAC vs 24 VDC) on site before quoting.
