Decoding the Manaras Product Code

Every operator ships with a seven-position code on the data plate. Reading it tells you the exact model, voltage, horsepower, mechanical configuration and control board installed. Here is the structure:

Position Meaning Values
1. Model Base operator model Any code from the tables above (e.g., OTBH)
2. Environment Special environment trim No letter = standard · W = damp/washdown · C = corrosive · X = hazardous location
3. Power Frequency, voltage & phase 611 = 120V 1-ph · 681 = 208V 1-ph · 621 = 240V 1-ph · 623 = 208V 3-ph · 673 = 240V 3-ph · 643 = 480V 3-ph · 653 = 600V 3-ph · 521 = 220V 1-ph 50Hz · 533 = 380V 3-ph 50Hz
4. Horsepower Motor size 2 = 1/2 HP · 3 = 3/4 HP · 4 = 1 HP · 5 = 1-1/2 HP · 6 = 2 HP · 7 = 3 HP · 8 = 5 HP
5. Mechanical Hoist mount or chain Jackshaft hoist: 0 = right, 1 = left · Trolley chain: 0 = #48/#410, 1 = #41 · Sliding door: 1 = #41 · Apartment: A
6. Control Board ECB configuration M = monitored with photoelectric cells · N = monitored without photoelectric cells · P = external control panel
7. Other Additional modifications Application-specific, if any

Worked example: OTBH W 611 3 1 M 00 decodes as a heavy-duty trolley with brake (OTBH), washdown trim (W), 120V single-phase (611), 3/4 HP motor (3), #41 chain (1), monitored board with photo eyes (M), no extra modifications (00).

Typical Applications by Model Class

  • Medium-duty jackshaft & trolley (OMJ, OMH, MLT, OMT): Light commercial sectional doors, low-cycle loading docks, storage facilities.
  • Heavy-duty jackshaft & trolley (OPJ, OPH, OHJ, OTH, OTBH): Standard commercial/industrial sectional doors, higher cycle counts, doors requiring brake for safety.
  • Industrial gearhead & ultra heavy-duty (OGH, MGH, MRGH, MSJ, MGT): Large, heavy doors, very high cycle rates, mining, manufacturing, distribution centres.
  • Apartment / parkade / Silencio (OTH-A.00, OTBH-A.00/.05/.06, RTBH-A.06): Residential parkades, multi-family buildings where quiet operation matters.
  • High-speed Rapido & Allegro (RGH, RSH, RMSJ, RTBH, RVH, ALLE): High-traffic openings, cold storage, clean rooms, vinyl rolling doors — any application demanding fast cycle times.
  • Sliding & direct drive (OSL, MGSL, DT/DH/DS): Horizontal sliding doors, specialized direct-drive installations.
  • Washdown, corrosive & hazardous (GHW/C, OPH-W/C, OSH-W/C, GHX): Food processing, chemical plants, vehicle wash bays, classified hazardous locations.

Common Failure Modes & How We Repair Them

Because we service what we sell, we see the same wear patterns across the Manaras line. The most frequent issues we handle in our Richmond shop:

  • Limit switch drift or failure — causes over-travel or door not opening fully. We replace the limit assembly and recalibrate.
  • Brake solenoid or lining wear on OTBH, OMBT, OTBH-A models — door drifts down or won’t hold. We install factory brake kits and adjust air gap.
  • ECB control board faults — monitored boards (M/N config) can lose photo-eye inputs or relay outputs. We diagnose with Manaras test equipment and swap boards.
  • Hoist mechanism binding on Opera-MH, Opera-H, Opera-HJ, Opera-BH — manual chain hoist seizes from lack of lubrication or corrosion. We disassemble, clean, grease and replace worn sprockets.
  • Worm gear wear on OGH, MGH, MRGH, MGT — high-cycle industrial units develop backlash. We inspect gear sets and replace worm/wheel pairs as needed.
  • VFD parameter errors on Rapido RMSJ and other VFD-driven high-speed units — incorrect acceleration/deceleration ramps cause door slam or faults. We reprogram drives to Manaras specs.
  • Environmental seal degradation on W/C/X trim units — water or chemical ingress corrodes limit switches, brakes and motor windings. We reseal enclosures and replace corroded components.
  • Chain stretch or sprocket wear on trolley and sliding door operators — causes jerking, noise, missed limits. We tension or replace chain and sprockets per position 5 specs.

All repairs use genuine Manaras parts. We carry common limit switches, brake kits, ECB boards, hoist components, chain and sprockets in our Richmond warehouse; specialty gear sets and VFD modules are ordered direct from the factory with typical 2–3 business day lead time.

Choosing Between Models

Selection depends on door weight, cycle count, environment and required speed:

  • Cycle rating: Medium-duty (OMJ, OMT, MLT) suits under 25 cycles/day. Heavy-duty (OPJ, OPH, OTH, OTBH) handles 25–75 cycles/day. Industrial gearhead (MGH, MRGH, MSJ, MGT) and Rapido high-speed units are built for 75+ cycles/day.
  • Hoist requirement: If manual operation during power loss is required, choose a hoist model (OMH, OPH, OHJ, OBH, MSJ). Hoist-a-matic (OBH) self-engages automatically.
  • Brake: Required on doors over 14 ft high or where uncontrolled descent is a hazard — specify OTBH, OMBT or OTBH-A variants.
  • Environment: Washdown (W)
