All four share heavy-duty fundamentals: high starting-torque continuous-duty motors (single or three-phase), #50 roller-chain final drive with door sprockets for 6–12 in/sec travel, drum-band solenoid brake (mechanical on the Opera-HW/C), emergency chain hoist with electrical cut-out, and rotary cam limits that stay in time through manual operation.
What Each Rating Is For
Washdown (W/C series, Nema 4/12): Doors and surrounding areas that are hosed down daily — food and beverage processing, commercial kitchen service doors, wash bays. Keeps water, oil and dust out of the electrics.
Corrosive Washdown (W/C series, Nema 4X): Same hosed environments with salt air or chemicals — fish plants, chlorinated pool plant rooms, chemical storage. Corrosion-resistant components throughout.
Hazardous Location (GHX): Atmospheres that can ignite. Class I Group D covers vapours such as gasoline and solvents; Class II Groups F and G cover combustible dusts such as coal and grain. The GHX is CSA-certified for these indoor classified locations, including the hazardous-location push-button station and conduit fittings. If your AHJ or insurer has classified the room, this is the unit that satisfies code.
What Fails & How We Repair It
The sealing is the point — and the first thing lost to a careless repair. Every gland, gasket and certified fitting that gets disturbed must go back to spec. Mixing in a standard Nema 1 accessory (a bare photo eye, an unsealed control station) quietly voids the room’s rating at its weakest point. Accessories must match the enclosure class; sealed stations such as the STATION078 (IP66 / Nema 4, 4X) exist for exactly this.
Beyond sealing, these are worm-gear and V-belt machines with the same service points as their standard siblings — reducer oil, belts, clutch, brake — just with a stricter rule: everything goes back sealed. We bring the correct gaskets, glands and certified fittings on every service call so the rating holds.
