The drive out to UBC
From Horseshoe Way we take Steveston Highway to Highway 99 and cross the Oak Street Bridge. Then it is Granville Street and Southwest Marine Drive out to the point. On a normal day that is 25 to 40 minutes. It is the far end of our run on the west side, so we tell you an honest arrival time when you call.
Garage door repair UBC homes call us for
Two kinds of homes make up most of our calls out here. The newer townhomes and houses on campus are mostly attached garages with belt drive openers. Their problems are usually electronic. Logic boards fail, photo eyes drift out of line and smart openers drop off the Wi Fi.
The older single family houses on the Endowment Lands side are more mechanical. Torsion springs wear out, lift cables fray and the original openers reach the end of their life. Those calls are springs and cables more often than not.
The University Endowment Lands is its own area, separate from the City of Vancouver. Most of it is Pacific Spirit Regional Park. That does not change your door, but it is why we treat UBC as its own trip.
Parkade and shared doors
We also work on shared parkade doors and commercial sectional doors on buildings near campus. For a shared door we deal with the building manager or strata, and we put the quote in writing before any work starts.
What we fix at UBC
- Broken torsion springs on the older Endowment Lands houses
- Frayed or snapped lift cables
- Opener boards, motors and safety sensors on the newer homes
- Doors knocked off track by a bumper or a worn roller
- Noisy doors that need rollers, hinges or a proper lube
- New doors and openers when a repair no longer makes sense
Garage door repair UBC parts we bring
Because it is a longer drive, we ask a few questions first so we do not need a second trip. Springs for the older houses go on the truck along with cables in the common lengths. For the newer homes we bring sensors and opener boards. If you know the opener brand, tell us when you call.
A lot of garage door repair UBC calls turn out to be photo eyes. The door starts down, then goes back up. Before you call, wipe both lenses and look for a green light on each one. If one is off or blinking, that is likely the problem and we can talk you through it on the phone.
Before you call
If the door is stuck, pull the red release cord only if the door stays put when you lift it halfway. If it feels heavy, leave it closed. A heavy door usually means a broken spring and it can drop.
Tell us whether the garage is on campus or on the Endowment Lands side and what the door is doing. That tells us which parts to bring.
