What the 87504-267 is
The 87504-267 is a belt drive opener with a 12V DC motor. LiftMaster does not publish a horsepower number for it. It runs quietly and starts and stops softly, which is easier on the door sections and hardware. The camera is built into the motor head and feeds the myQ app. An LED ring wraps around it and puts out a good amount of light.
The belt is steel reinforced. It does not stretch the way a chain does and it does not squeak in the cold.
LiftMaster still lists the 87504-267. We install new ones and keep the ones already on the ceiling running.

Mounting
The rail goes to the header bracket and the header bracket goes into solid framing, never drywall. On some older Richmond houses the header is thin, so we add blocking before we hang the opener. The head hangs from the joists on angle iron with lag bolts. A lag into sheathing alone will pull out.
Belt tension
The belt comes tensioned from the factory, but we check it at the trolley. Too loose and it skips teeth on the sprocket in a cold snap. Too tight and the motor bearings wear early. We aim for about half an inch of give at the middle.
Limits and sensors
Travel limits are set with the adjustment button on the opener itself, not the wall control or the app. Then the opener runs the door up and down once and sets the force on its own. We set the down limit so the bottom seal presses lightly on the concrete and keeps out wind driven rain without making the door bind. Photo eyes go no higher than six inches off the floor, with the wires run along the track and tied every foot or so. A corroded sensor wire is the most common reason a door will not close on a wet day.
myQ and the camera
We pair the opener to your Wi Fi on site and check the camera feed loads in the app. This model only joins 2.4 GHz networks. If your router uses one name for both bands, we pair it with 5 GHz off for a minute.
What goes wrong on a belt drive
A belt can come apart if the door is shock loaded, for example when a bumper taps the bottom section while the door is moving. The sudden stop can shear belt teeth. The trolley carriage can also crack where it engages.
The logic board handles the soft start, the force sensing and the camera. Power surges take out its input side. A whole house surge protector helps.
The camera can fog in damp, uninsulated garages near the water. If the camera stays offline after a power cycle, the camera module or its ribbon cable has usually failed.
The trolley rides plastic guide wheels inside the rail. If the rail bows, usually from a header bracket that was not shimmed level, the trolley binds and the belt wears unevenly. We straighten the rail with a string line and shim the bracket before we set the belt.
Symptom guide
- Reverses halfway down with nothing in the way. Check the force setting, then look for a bent track flange.
- Motor runs, trolley does not move. Pull the release and slide the trolley by hand. Free means a broken belt. Stuck means a cracked carriage or bent rail.
- Camera offline in the app, wall button works. Unplug the opener for thirty seconds. If the camera stays dark, the module or its cable has failed.
- Beeping with an orange status light. The backup battery is dead.
- LED ring flickering or partly dark. The driver on the logic board. The ring is not fixed one light at a time.
- Will not close from the remote or app, wall button works. Photo eye alignment. Clean the lenses and check both lights are solid.
Repair or replace
If the belt or trolley is worn but the motor and board are fine, repair it. If the board is gone on an older unit, a new opener is often the better spend because parts for older models get harder to find. We show you both prices.
The backup battery wears out every few years. Replace it before the beeping starts and it will not catch you out in a windstorm.
Camera recording
The camera streams live to the app when you open it. It does not record to a card. Recorded clips need a myQ video plan.
