Short answer. LiftMaster 98032 troubleshooting comes down to four checks. The Door Profile has to match your drums. The collar on the torsion bar has to be tight. The photo eyes have to line up. The myQ Remote LED Light has to be installed before Timer-to-Close and app control will run. The blink codes on the UP and DOWN arrows tell you which. Unplug it before you work on it.
Know the limits of the 98032
Good LiftMaster 98032 troubleshooting starts with whether the door suits the opener at all. The manual (114-5907-000) says it is for sectional doors with torsion springs on a 1 inch torsion bar, not reverse wound drums. Door weight has to fall between 400 and 1,100 lb. Width goes up to 18 ft and standard lift height to 14 ft. It also handles high lift up to 84 inches with a partial taper drum, and vertical lift with 8 inch full taper drums.
The manual also warns to watch the torsion bar while the door moves. Visible up and down or side to side movement shortens the life of the opener. We check that first on every wall mount call.
Door Profile, the setting people skip
The 98032 needs to be told what drums it is turning. Hold the black button for one second. Pick a profile with UP or DOWN and count the blinks on the learn LED. Press black to save. There is no preset profile.

Profiles 1 and 2 are 4 to 5 inch drums, 3 and 4 are 5 to 6 inch drums, split by unbalanced door weight. Profile 5 is the 8 inch drum for high lift or vertical lift. If the door runs faster or slower than you expect, or the speed changes through travel, the manual points straight back at this setting. After any profile change, reprogram the limits.
Travel on the 98032 learns itself
Hold UP until the door sits where you want it open, then press the adjustment button. The opener closes on its own and finds the floor. Then it opens partway and closes again to refine the down position. After that it runs a force setup and beeps three times. Five flashes of the remote work light means the setup timed out. One long beep means the force setup failed, start again. This is unlike the ceiling units, where you set the down position by hand.
LiftMaster 98032 troubleshooting codes unique to the wall mount
The chart shares most of its codes with the ceiling openers, with a few extras worth knowing.
| Up | Down | Meaning on the 98032 |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | 4 | Will not close and the lights blink, sensors misaligned |
| 3 | 1 | Moves slightly then stops, try again and replace the board if it repeats |
| 3 | 2 | Reverses right before fully closed, clears after a full cycle |
| 3 | 3 | Battery LED blinking green nonstop, charging circuit on the board |
| 5 | 5 | Will not close by Timer-to-Close or myQ, the myQ Remote LED Light is missing or not programmed |
That 5 and 5 code catches people. The manual says the light must be installed for Timer-to-Close or phone control, and it can take up to 5 minutes for those to come back once it is plugged in and paired.

The collar is the weak point
Two lines in the troubleshooting pages say the same thing. If the door loses its limits, the collar was not tightened. Tighten it and reprogram. If the door hits the floor and reverses, or the motor hums and quits, verify the collar screw and set screw. Some movement of the opener body is normal. Too much wears the collar early. The manual has you check that the opener sits at a right angle to the jackshaft and move the mounting bracket if not. LiftMaster sells a heavy duty shaft collar for the 98032 as model 041-0400-000.
Our opinion is blunt. Most 98032 trouble we see was built in on install day by a loose collar or a wobbly torsion bar, not by the opener.
Battery and the cable tension monitor
The 98032 holds two 485LM batteries in a holder (041-0405-000) with a jumper between them. On battery it is good for up to 20 cycles in 24 hours, or 30 hours of standby. A blinking orange LED with a beep every 30 seconds means low battery, and solid red with a beep every 30 seconds means replace.

If the opener still expects a Cable Tension Monitor that is no longer there, press the yellow learn button 4 times. The LED blinks the number it thinks is installed. Use the DOWN arrow to change it and press black to save. One more note from the manual is that older 24V door locks will not fit, only the 841LM.
